Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about how our tutoring works, how we match students with tutors, and what support we offer. We hope this helps you feel confident before booking a consultation.
Swiss Science Tutors is not a browse-and-book marketplace. We are a bespoke, consultation-led tutoring service, which means we take time to understand each student’s goals, personality, curriculum and academic needs before recommending a tutor. Rather than asking families to search through profiles alone, we guide the process and match each student with a carefully chosen specialist.
Our tutors are hand-selected, interviewed and background-checked, and we continue to review progress once tutoring begins. This gives families greater confidence in the quality of support they receive and creates a more personal, trusted partnership than a simple pay-per-hour platform. That focus on trust, careful matching and expert guidance is what sets Swiss Science Tutors apart.
We choose our tutors with great care, looking not only at academic achievement but also at teaching ability, professionalism and the ability to build confidence in students. Our aim is to work with specialists who can offer both subject expertise and a supportive, thoughtful approach.
That careful selection process is a key part of what makes Swiss Science Tutors different. Rather than offering an open directory of tutors, we build a trusted team of hand-selected experts who reflect the high standards families expect from a premium service.
Yes. Our tutors are carefully screened before they begin working with Swiss Science Tutors. This includes a selection process designed to make sure they meet the standards we expect in both academic quality and professionalism.
As well as being hand-selected, tutors are interviewed and background-checked, giving families added reassurance from the outset. That extra layer of vetting is an important part of the trusted, consultation-led service we provide.
Our tutors come from strong academic and professional backgrounds, with many holding advanced degrees and experience from leading institutions. Across the team, this includes PhD graduates, researchers, lecturers, qualified educators and tutors with experience supporting demanding academic pathways.
The tutor profiles also show the level of credibility behind the team, with backgrounds connected to places such as EPFL, ETH Zürich, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial and UCL. That depth of expertise allows us to match students with tutors who are genuinely well qualified in their subject area.
Our process begins with a conversation about your child’s needs, goals, curriculum and any areas where extra support may be helpful. This allows us to understand the bigger picture before recommending a tutor.
That consultation is an important part of our service, because it means the tutoring relationship starts with clarity and purpose. Rather than asking families to make the decision alone, we guide the process from the start and recommend a tutor with care.
We match each student individually, taking into account their subject, curriculum, goals and the kind of support they need most. We also consider factors such as personality and teaching style, so the match works well on a human level as well as an academic one.
This more personal approach is central to the way Swiss Science Tutors works. Instead of leaving families to compare tutor profiles on their own, we use our knowledge of both the student and our tutor team to recommend the right fit.
Once tutoring is underway, we do not simply step back and leave everything to chance. Ongoing review is part of the service, helping to make sure support remains effective and aligned with the student’s needs.
This creates a more reassuring experience for families and allows the programme to adapt if goals, priorities or challenges change over time. It is one of the ways we offer a more supportive partnership than a simple pay-per-hour platform.
We offer tailored academic support designed around each student’s goals, level and curriculum. This can include ongoing subject tuition, focused exam preparation, and help with specific academic targets where a student needs more structured guidance.
Our service is designed to be flexible and personalised rather than one-size-fits-all. Because we begin with consultation and matching, we can recommend the kind of support that best suits the student, whether they need regular tuition or more targeted help at a key stage.
Our core focus is on maths and science, particularly Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. We also support a range of related academic pathways and specialist areas through our wider tutor team, depending on the student’s needs.
In terms of curricula, we support a variety of programmes studied in Switzerland, including IB, IGCSE, A Level, Swiss Maturité or Matura, French Bac, and entrance-related maths preparation such as EPFL Cours Euler. This allows us to offer more targeted support than a general tutoring platform.
Yes. We support IB students across key areas of the programme, including subject-specific tutoring and exam preparation. Several tutors in the team already have strong IB teaching and tutoring experience, particularly in subjects such as Maths and the sciences.
Because IB students often need both subject depth and familiarity with the demands of the curriculum, careful tutor matching is especially important. Our aim is to pair students with a tutor who understands both the academic content and the expectations of the programme.
Yes. Swiss Science Tutors offers both online and in-person tutoring, depending on the student’s location and the tutor available. The service is primarily online, which allows us to support students across the whole of Switzerland.
Where suitable tutors are available locally, we can also offer in-person support in major Swiss cities and regions. This combination gives families flexibility while still keeping access to a strong pool of specialist tutors.
For online tutoring, we work with students across all of Switzerland. This national reach is one of the advantages of a service that is primarily delivered online, giving families access to specialist support wherever they are based.
For in-person tutoring, availability depends on the student’s location and the tutors available locally. We aim to support families in major Swiss cities and regions, including Geneva, Zürich, Lausanne, Zug, Basel, Vevey, Montreux, St Gallen and Fribourg, where a suitable tutor is available.
Yes. A number of our tutors are multilingual and can teach in more than one language, depending on the tutor and subject. Across the team, languages listed in the tutor profiles include English, French, German, Arabic and Italian, with some tutors offering additional language ability as well.
This can be especially helpful for families in Switzerland who want a tutor that fits not only the right subject and curriculum, but also the right language background. We take that into account during the matching process wherever possible.
This keeps the process personal from the start. Rather than asking you to browse tutor profiles alone, we take time to understand what your child needs and guide you towards the tutor best suited to support them.
